OUR STORY

In the summer of 2018, after many years of playing parties in the Alberta electronic music scene, Josh, Tommy, Cody, and Frank decided to throw a private party for 100 friends. The idea was to celebrate Josh's birthday while creating a space to showcase local Edmonton DJs—at the time, it was almost impossible to get booked at festivals outside the province. The first stage was The Pyramid, and the event was originally called The River Womp because we all went floating down the river before dancing in the open field. That Day, Josh met Astra.

In 2019, we built our second stage, "The Castle," to showcase DNB and dubstep, opening the gates to a larger community and expanding opportunities for more underground sounds. In 2020, we had to scale back to a small, family-only party due to COVID, supplemented by a few online events. In 2021, we gathered around The Castle to play for 24 hours straight, and in 2022, we returned with two stages, now nestled inside the forest.

In 2023, we welcomed our first international artists and built The Doll House, a multi-genre daytime stage that invited everyone to let their inner child roam free. In 2024, we re-imagined The Castle, and in 2025, a new Pyramid stage was born. Today, Josh and Astra are married and have two Womp babies.

In 2026, The Womp Music Festival will celebrate its 9th anniversary, gathering over one thousand friends, 150+ music artists and dance performers from Western Canada, international headliners, and a variety of community vendors and artists. Together, we are THE WOMP: The World Of Magical People.
